Cold drinks, sunny weather, vacations, the sand and the ocean. These are some of the things we love about summer. All of these are enhanced by music. That’s why we turn up the tunes before firing up the grill. So what better way to kick off the summer than to play tunes with a summer vibe.
We learned to play two songs together: “Upside Down” by Jack Johnson and “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams. I guided the jammers through the songs so that they could play both songs completely by the end of the jam session.
In the morning group, we had Maddie, Ben, Adam, Ruth, Kelli and Mike. Watch their playthrough for “Upside Down.” They sound great!
In the afternoon, we had Doug, Dave, Ben and Gene. Their rendition of “Summer of ’69” was killer. Check it out!
The jam was a great opportunity for my students to learn two new songs in a group setting and experience what it is like to play music with others. There were a few teachable moments in there too. Check out two of those moments here:
I plan on hosting jams several more times this year, so stay tuned.
